CALIFORNIA LEARNING RESOURCE NETWORK APPROVES QUANTUM TUTORS® AS TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION

Artificial Intelligence Tutoring Software Complies with California State Academic Content Standards

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - July 12, 2005, the Quantum Tutors®, the first and only artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring software for science, was identified by the California Learning Resource Network (CLRN) as an approved learning resource that complies with California state academic content standards. CLRN is the premier online resource in California for identifying and evaluating technology-based learning tools that are aligned with that state's education requirements.

The powerful "Enter Any Problem" feature of the AI software enables the Quantum Tutors® for Chemistry and Applied Mathematics to be compatible with California content standards - and any other state's curriculum. An effective and complementary learning tool, the Quantum Tutors® require no change in existing lesson plans, textbooks or homework assignments used by teachers. Accessed over the Internet, the software allows students to work independently on any problem in class or at home and receive personal tutoring assistance based on their own work, subject knowledge and learning style. Just like working with a human tutor, the student can view each step in a problem with detailed explanations of concepts, receive personal feedback on their own work, request hints and ask questions.

The Quantum Tutors® have been developed in time to help teachers and schools with NCLB-mandated science assessments scheduled to begin in the 2006/2007 school year. Over $4 million in funding has been invested in the research and development of Quantum's AI technology by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. More than 2,000 students and teachers have participated in research studies across the country where the Quantum Tutors® have been scientifically proven to increase test scores by as much 50%.

All 13 of the Quantum Tutor modules were evaluated by the CLRN review panel and confirmed to meet:

  • California academic content standards

  • Review and instructional criteria for technology resources

  • Legal compliance

CLRN cited other unique features of Quantum's tutoring software to be in compliance with their requirements, including the ability to:

  • Accept any problem the student wants to work on, whether from the textbook, assignment sheet or other resources

  • Effectively help struggling and advanced students who are working independently on problems in the classroom and at home

  • Present dynamically changing content specific to the individual needs of each student

  • Use real-world examples that are current, accurate and scholarly

  • Offer personalized, corrective feedback and provide bridges to more complex skills and knowledge

  • Provide feedback to teachers to help determine student progress

  • Give students control over the pace at which they learn in an intuitive, user-friendly environment

"The CLRN review process was very thorough," stated Mr. Dale Holder, Quantum's Chief Academic Officer and award-winning master chemistry and mathematics teacher for over 35 years. "As our nation's schools prepare for NCLB science assessments, the flexibility of our AI technology makes the Quantum Tutors® a universally effective instructional tool for all teachers, regardless of their state or curriculum requirements."

The Quantum Tutors® are listed on the CLRN web site at www.clrn.org for reference by educators looking for effective technology-based learning tools for students.
