QUANTUM® RECEIVES PLATINUM AWARD FOR BEST PRACTICES FOR ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMMING FROM THE UNITED STATES DISTANCE LEARNING ASSOCIATION (USDLA)

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania April 29, 2009, Quantum Simulations, Inc., a developer of artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring, assessment and professional development software for science, mathematics and accounting, received a Platinum Award for its exceptional achievements in software development at the USDLA International 21st Century Best Practice Awards Ceremony held in St. Louis, Missouri last night. This is the second consecutive year Quantum® has received this prestigious award.

Building a solid foundation in the core sciences in the primary and secondary school years is crucial so that the doors to career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are not closed to students, particularly those who are blind or visually impaired, commented Dr. Benny G. Johnson, President and CEO at Quantum Simulations, Inc. Quantum® has addressed this equity challenge directly by building accessibility into our existing software so all students, whether sighted or blind, access the same software program.

An analogy often used when developing accessible software is that by including features such as wheelchair ramps in the architectural plans for a building at the design stage, accessibility can become integrated into the process without raising development costs. This is critically important not just in achieving but maintaining an ongoing commitment to accessibility. For Quantum®, accessibility is integral to the AI product itself rather than creating an accessible version that must be separately maintained.

Quantum® is unique from other software programs in its ability to help students with their own problems, whether from the textbook, homework assignment or other resource. Proven to increase test scores by at least 50 percent and improve problem-solving skills, Quantum® provides detailed, step-by-step feedback on the students own work and can answer questions when the teacher is not available to help, such as in the evening when working on a homework assignment or preparing for a test.

"As a premier organization for the entire distance learning profession, we enjoy honoring Quantum® as a leader in the industry," said Dr. John G. Flores, CEO of USDLA. "Each year, companies like Quantum® continue to raise the bar and exceed best practice expectations for the industry as a whole and we are truly honored by their contributions to the distance learning industry."

A complete list of winners is available on the USDLA web site at http://www.usdla.org.
